Moorelands Camp Job Descriptions

Moorelands Camp is a very busy place! It requires staff with a variety of skills and abilities. Please note that cabin leading staff are 18 years of age by July 1, 2008. Younger staff may be hired at the discretion of the Camp Director. Staff training is provided for all positions and is mandatory. Job descriptions are divided into five categories:

Cabin Life

Cabin Leaders (16 male and 16 female)

Dates of Employment:
June 21, 2008 - August 24, 2008

Cabin leaders, under the supervision of a Section Head, work in pairs living, teaching, playing and caring for a cabin group. Cabin leaders are responsible for the health, safety and acceptance of each camper in the cabin group. Cabin Leaders lead some activities, participate in caring for the camp facility and may teach in program areas.

Qualifications

  • Current Standard First Aid or Bronze Cross
  • A sincere desire and ability to work with children in an outdoor setting.
  • Cabin leading staff are 18 years of age by July 1, 2008. (Younger staff may be hired at the discretion of the Camp Director)

Section Heads (2 male and 2 female)

Dates of Employment:
June 14, 2008 - August 24, 2008

Section Heads are responsible for eight cabin groups, their cabin leaders and campers. In addition to supervising and supporting cabin leaders, Section Heads also provide support to the cabin groups and organize section programming.

Qualifications

  • Current Standard First Aid or Bronze Cross and
  • Excellent leadership, supervision and organizational skills.
  • Supervisory Experience
  • Possess the personal, emotional, and vocational resources needed to be effective working with staff and children in a demanding setting

Program Staff

Program Area Heads

Dates of Employment:
June 14, 2008 - August 24, 2008

Area Heads are responsible for developing and implementing programs in their specific areas following guidelines that fulfill our camp goals. All program leaders are responsible for running creative, safe, effective programs and supervising staff and participants.

Program Staff Positions and Qualifications

All program staff holds current Standard First Aid or Bronze Cross, plus:

Aquatic Director (1)
RLSSC Instructors and NLS and four years experience. RLSSC Examiners is an asset. Knowledge of canoeing, kayaking and tripping.  Proven teaching skills and supervisory experience. Minimum age 20 years

Lifeguard (6) Minimum 17 years old with NLS.

Archery (1) Teaching archery, Basic Instructors course.

Arts and Crafts (1)
Creativity and teaching experience with children and youth.

Outdoor Living Skills (OLS)
Co-ordinator (1)
Current Bronze Cross or NLS, ORCA Basic Instructors and thorough knowledge and experience of canoeing, tripping and outdoor living skills.

OLS Out-trip Leaders Current Bronze Cross or NLS, ORCA Basic Instructors and thorough knowledge of canoeing, tripping outdoor living skills
Minimum 18 years old

High and Low Ropes Instructor  (1) and Assistant (1) Instructor certification on challenge ropes course (i.e. CUI , 1& 2). Thorough knowledge of belaying, debriefing, initiative tasks and high and low ropes course programming, safety and equipment.

Leadership Co-ordinator (1) Current Standard First Aid or Bronze Cross. Experience teaching and leading experiential education and leadership development.

Service Team

Service Team Supervisor (1)

Dates of Employment:
May 5, 2008 - August 29, 2008

Assists the site manager with general maintenance, staff supervision, building and construction, site security and transportation

Qualifications

  • Basic carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and electrical repair/maintenance skills
  • Ability to drive boats, Boat Operators Licence preferred
  • First Aid Certification.

Service Team

Dates of Employment:
June 14, 2008 - August 24, 2008

The service team supports the camp by driving boats, vans, maintaining washrooms/showers, grounds keeping, managing food orders and garbage, security and other regular daily operating routines,

Administrative Team

Administrative Assistant (1)

Dates of Employment:
June 9, 2008 - August 28, 2008

The Administrative Assistant provides reception services, manages office functions, assists with scheduling and provides clerical support to other departments.

Qualifications

  • Mature, pleasant
  • Computer word processing, spreadsheet
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Standard First Aid Certificate, an asset.
  • Ability to work with a team and/or independantly as necessary in a demanding setting.

Director of Cabin Life (1)

Dates of Employment:
June 9, 2008 - August 28, 2008

The Director of Cabin Life is responsible for Cabin Leading Staff, Section Heads, camper disciplinary issues and assists the Director with staff training, development, supervision and support

Qualifications

  • Standard First Aid or Bronze Cross
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Training and supervisory skills
  • At least 2 years experience in a senior staff position at a children's camp, or related program
  • Possess the personal, emotional, and vocational resources needed to be effective working with staff and children in a demanding setting

Director of Programming (1)

Dates of Employment:
June 9, 2008 - August 28, 2008

The Director of Programming plans, ensures the implementation of & evaluates all camp program areas, supervises and evaluates program staff, assists with training and program development

Qualifications

  • Standard First Aid or Bronze Cross or NLS
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and supervisory skills
  • Working knowledge of all program areas at camp
  • At least 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of OCA Standards
  • Possess the personal, emotional, and vocational resources needed to be effective working with staff and children in a demanding setting

Nursing Staff

Nurse (1) FILLED

Dates of Employment:
June 16, 2008 - August 24, 2008

Reporting to the camp director the nurse is responsible for the promotion of the general health and safety of campers and staff.

Qualifications

  • RN licenced in Ontario
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Promote a healthy lifestyle and practice to staff and campers
  • Promote a healthy camp community

Assistant to the Nurse (1)

Dates of Employment:
June 16, 2008 - August 24, 2008

Reporting to the nurse-in-charge, assists with the promotion of the general health and safety of campers and staff.

Qualifications

  • Registration with the College of Nurses, nursing graduate/student or RPN
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate.
