Shaping Futures at Moorelands

All kids have the potential to shine as leaders and achievers, but not all are given the building blocks needed to strengthen their skills and self-esteem. Each year, over 900 children and youth take part in Moorelands City Programs including after-school, youth leadership and city summer day camp. These programs provide fun and positive experiences for children and bring out the best in them.

In 2002, Moorelands began to expand its services to meet the expressed needs of two low-income, under-resourced communities in Toronto – Flemingdon Park and Thorncliffe Park .

These first-stop immigrant communities, where dozens of different languages are spoken, are home to thousands of children and youth. Flemingdon Park is the youngest neighbourhood in Toronto (according to the latest census) and has been identified as a priority neighbourhood. Thorncliffe Park Elementary is the largest school in North America , with nearly 1,800 students in Kindergarten
to Grade 5.

Moorelands City Programs have made a positive difference in the lives of many children affected by poverty, but even so, currently we are able to serve less than 12% of the children in need in Flemingdon Park and Thorncliffe Park.

The Moorelands Shaping Futures Campaign is our response to the growing demand for services. Our campaign goal is to raise $1.5 million over five years. This will enable us to serve two and a half times more children in need than before we started to expand our programs.

We are well under way in this campaign, but you can help us achieve the goal sooner – and dramatically increase the number of children we serve each year.

You can be recognized for your cumulative contributions on one of the several levels:

Patrons Circle - $100,000 +

Leaders Circle - $50,000 - $99,999

Friends Circle - $20,000 - $49,999

Supporters Circle - $10,000 - $19,999

Helping Hand Circle - $5,000 - $9,999
