Moorelands Staff

With more than 25 years experience in social services, Patricia joined the Moorelands team as Executive Director in 1999. Prior to Moorelands, Patricia held various positions managing community projects and organizations including as Executive Director of Our Place (Peel), Program Director at the Social Planning Council of Peel and Consultant with the Ministry of Citizenship and Culture.

Patricia was born in Montreal and moved as a young person with her family to Toronto. She has a BA and BSW from York University and an MSW from the University of Toronto and is a passionate advocate of evidence based practice. She is a Registered Social Worker and a Paul Harris Fellow.

Robert arrived at Moorelands with 15 years of experience in the fundraising profession, and having worked at charities that ranged from social service organizations, to the arts (Artword Theatre), to health (Canadian Diabetes Association), to education (York and Ryerson Universities) and broadcasting. It was as a broadcaster, at CJRT-FM (now Jazz-FM), that he first tasted the joys and heartbreaks of connecting donors with worthy causes. The sense of purpose proved to be irresistible. Born and educated in Europe, Robert is by now as Canadian as maple syrup and his law degree and broadcasting career are but distant memories. His personal motivation for joining the Moorelands team is the wish to help kids reach their full potential. Robert is an active member and a volunteer with the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Canadian Association of Gift Planners. Since 2003 he has held the international designation of Certified Fundraising Executive.

Lynda Tilley brought over 16 years of experience working with children and youth at risk to her position of Camp Director of Moorelands Camp when she joined Moorelands in 2000. Prior to joining the Moorelands team, Lynda was the Residential Centre Manager of Our Place I, a long-term residence for disadvantaged and homeless youth in Peel Region. Lynda sees camp as a place to provide opportunities for children to develop positive relationships with adults and peers and to learn core values of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. Lynda is a graduate of the American Camping Association's Camp Director Course.

Prior to joining Moorelands in 2007, Katie Wright spent 6 years developing and implementing programs for children and youth. She coordinated summer camps, an after-school program and community center events for the City of Toronto and a summer camp at COSTI Immigrant Services. She spent six months teaching at an elementary school in Ghana and in 2006 worked for Right to Play in Northern Uganda evaluating, designing and implementing health, recreational and youth leadership programs in partnership with UNHCR at a Refugee Settlement. From her diverse experiences, Katie developed a strong belief that quality recreational programming plays an essential role in the healthy development of children and youth and creates stronger and safer communities. She remains excited that she joined an organization that shares that belief.

Prior to joining Moorelands in 2009, Min Lin worked in the not-for-profit sector for five years. Her experience includes planning, development and implementation of accounting systems and policies, and administrative functions such as designing accounting procedures, budget, analysis, financial reports, payroll, Human Resources, and general office administration.

Min holds a master's degree in engineering and spent 10 years teaching in ShenZhen University in China. With great passion about working in the accounting field, she achieved her CGA designation in 2011.

Cheryle Pollock first became involved with Moorelands Community Services through Moorelands Camp. Since joining Moorelands in 1979, she has been a Cabin Leader, Camp Nurse, First Aid Instructor, and Camp Registrar. Her current position as Administrative Coordinator means that Cheryle wears a number of hats including that of Baby Bundles Coordinator. Her commitment to young people has also led her to volunteer with Girl Guides of Canada and Scouts Canada. As Moorelands Camp Nurse for many years, Cheryle was instrumental in developing our health centre manual and physician guidelines. She trained at the Edith Cavell Regional School of Nursing and is a Registered Nurse.

Prior to joining Moorelands in 2007, Dagmar Schroeder raised three children as a stay-at-home parent. During this time, she became deeply committed to the not-for-profit sector and served on numerous committees and boards, including the Stephen Lewis Foundation, the Ontario Federation for Home & School Associations, TDSB School and Ward Councils, the Toronto Parents of Multiple Births Association and the Bach Children's Chorus.

Dagmar appreciates that staying home with one's children is a privilege unavailable to most parents in this city and feels passionate about raising funds and awareness for children and youth affected by poverty.

Dagmar holds a German University degree in English, Spanish and Economics and has a background in international trade show organization.

Karen joined Moorelands in 2006 as an After-school Program Assistant. In 2008 she took over as Moorelands' Day Camp Director and this past year added Assistant Manger City Programs to her responsibilities. Karen strives for excellence, designing quality programming that creates a safe, nurturing environment where Moorelands' participants have the opportunity to develop their skills and learn the value of respect, responsibility, and citizenship. She holds a SSW (Social Service Worker) diploma from Centennial College and a BA Hon Culture & Expression from York University.

Tamsyn joins the Moorelands team for the 2011/2012 school year from the University of Toronto Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, where she is in her last year of the Master's program. Prior to joining Moorelands, Tamsyn (with a BA in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Waterloo) has worked in many diverse areas including public and private schools, Corrections Canada, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and different camps across Canada and in the United States. Recently turning her focus to social service administration, Tamsyn is very excited to be working in the Moorelands community, an organization that has 100 years of experience to learn from.

At Moorelands, we recognize the inherent value of all children and youth. We work with Toronto children and youth affected by poverty to provide them with positive and fun experiences to help strengthen their confidence, competence and character.
